Three events with Reza at the Mairie X in Paris: Exhibition, Book signature and screening around Reza’s new book, “L’Envol” (Soaring). A documentary made by Iranian artist Ali Badri will also be screened for the occasion.

Feb.24 – Reza conference @ Euromed Business School

Reza is invited by the Euromed Business School in Marseille, France for a Conference and Exhibition on February 24th, 2012.

The exhibition “War + Peace” will be within the school and the conference on “Socialization by Image” with be held on February 24, at 6 pm in the Amphi A of the school.

The Conference is open for all public for free.

The dialogue created between the combination of the rewriting of the myth by the famous American novelist Siri Hustvedt, and the Orient as it is powerfully and sensitively revealed through the lens of the great photographer Reza, this book is an invitation to map infinity, across the seas and oceans, and new destinations for our dreams. The book “Soaring” adds another perspective to The Conference of the Birds by Farid Al-Din Attar, the Persian poet, whose work weaves the thread that constitutes the East, from past times until the present day. Through the textual reinterpretation by Jean-Claude Carrière, and a visual journey through the previously unpublished photographs by Reza, “Soaring” carries the reader on a mystical and timeless quest, during which Sufism and the dreamworld interface with each other.

Gazing at Reza’s photographs, Jean-Claude Carrière believed that through them he could perceive the journey in antiquity that was narrated by the Persian poet Farid Al-Din Attar, in the 12th Century, in his poem entitled “The Conference of the Birds”.

All the stages of that journey, the splendours together with the misfortunes, the chance events, the surprises, the astonishment, the ecstasy, the letting-go, the abandonment, the despair, these were all present in the photographer’s work. These images were awaiting nothing more than a glance and a single word. Therefore, piece by piece, these two men have since then recreated this initiatory flight-of-fancy. They set off together, they traversed the seven valleys, they reached the true king. There was just one surprise element: that the route has not changed, the obstacles remain in place and the same surprise awaits us at the conclusion. The centuries unfold, ruins follow upon ruins, it is we who have not changed.

From October 3, to November 4, 2011

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the assassination of Commander Massoud, the media are back on a decade of war, upheaval and hope in Afghanistan. Reza wanted to join the webdocumentary project produced by Arte Reportage. On the web platform, “Afghanistan: 10 years, 100 visions” provides daily broadcast of in-house produced videos, but also creations by young Afghan filmmakers, the famous filmmaker Barmak Akram and Reza.

Through the first module “Resistance“, Reza shares his memories of a deep friendship with the late leader of the Afghan resistance, bringing a new perspective on the resilience of the Afghan people and the struggle of Massoud and his men against the Russian invaders and later the Taliban.

Sharing the spirit of training in information and communication skills provided by NGO Ainaworld for the past 10 years, this multimedia platform dedicated to Afghanistan will give voice to Afghans.
