Plantu & Reza / Regards Croisés.

A book to be published by Editions Gallimard on october 28th 2021.

80 unpublished works by Plantu and Reza, privileged witnesses of the events of recent decades, which bring their humanist gaze to the world, calling for peace and dialogue, Plantu and Reza have started a fruitful collaboration in recent years, following their desire to carry out work community, to marry their two views on the world and their modes of expression. They imagined nearly eighty works associating the drawings of one with the photographs of the other. These creations, commented by Plantu and Reza, are brought together in this work for the first time. We find subjects dear to the two artists: the rights of women and children, the environment, the upheavals of the world, the stakes of power and, of course, the defense of freedom of expression. In opening, a text by the writer and art critic Pierre Bongiovanni presents the unique work of these two keen observers and fervent pacifists.

Exhibition Crossing destinies

One day, we opened a window to the world. We its sorrows there and we became attached to its beauty.

The multiple paths taken by the photographer Reza for 40 years, between wars and peace, have led him to meet children, women and men whose unique destiny has marked him. Close to each of them, to the point of feeling their suffering as well as their joy, he recounts, thanks to this universal alphabet that is photography, their human memories. Beyond borders, cultural diversity, murderous wars, his images do not tell the only sad observation of mutilated lives. If they are witnesses, they tend to show the smile behind the tears, the beauty behind the tragedy, the ever stronger life. This exhibition of photographs taken in France and around the world, tells the story of our human family and pays special homage to women.

Observance Chapel in the city of Draguignan

October 1st 2021 – January 8th 2022

A lecture will be given by Reza in october (Date to be determined)

Extract from a logbook of an announced resistance.

Today, Afghanistan, has been forever a country of souls rebelling against any invader, is in the twilight of a new day. The night to come will undoubtedly be long and dark. After twenty years of sowing seeds of freedom to be and to think, the Afghan people have lost a battle against fundamentalism, but they have not lost the war. Resigning ourselves to forgetting their dream and their fight would condemn these rebellious souls a little more. Since 1983, through his reports and his voluntary actions of education and training in journalism, culture of women and men, the photographer REZA, has forged a special bond with Afghanistan, its people and Massoud, charismatic leader of the resistance until 2001.This exhibition is an act of resistance against oblivion.

A photographic exhibition of Reza at Espace Carpeaux, 15 Boulevard Aristide Briand 92400 Courbevoie from September 23 to October 23, 2021, as part of the Atmosphere Festival from October 6 to 10, 2021, of which Reza is the sponsor.

Since 1980, the photographer Reza has been doing a long-term project on the Kurdish people. In 2013, he began a major photographic reportage on Iraqi Kurdistan.
This land, which remains little known to most people, is one that has been marked by the major conflicts of the Middle East and today remains the main bastion of defense against the Islamic State organization. It is home to a modern society, open to the world. Its autonomy is subject to a referendum today September 25, 2017. Reza is coverning this event in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Elegance of Fire

The world has become my country. I travel around it as a photographer and witness the way it drifts between war and peace. My home base is Paris, but I bear witness to the wounds of our humanity as a whole.

In 1987, I was invited to Baku and was very much looking forward to seeing the city. I knew that I would find an echo of my childhood there. This was my first time in Azerbaijan, and later I went there often, covering the decisive, tragic moments of the country’s history in 1990 and 1992 for the international media.

Over the following decades, I met people from the towns and the mountains as I walked across a country that I wanted discover and explore with my own eyes.

The Elegance of Fire is a visual and poetic journey, a pictorial witness of how the country is evolving, and of the variety and wealth of its ancestral cultural identity.

The Massacre of Innocents

The world has become my country. I travel around it as a photographer and witness the way it drifts between war and peace. My home base is Paris, but I bear witness to the wounds of our humanity as a whole. Since 1987, when I fi rst went to Baku, I have visited Azerbaijan several times as a photojournalist. I’ve covered the decisive, tragic moments in the history of the country for the international media, including Black January in 1990, the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh confl ict and the massacre in Azerbaijani town of Khojaly in 1992. A few years later, while on an assignment for the National Geographic Magazine, I spent some time investigating the troubled lives of refugees and displaced persons, among other topics. I have often returned to Azerbaijan as an observer and witness of a country undergoing rapid change. In every village, town, and city I traveled through, I noticed the presence of a place of remembrance, often to mark the memory of a tragedy. In The Massacre of Innocents, I wanted to pay tribute to these women and men, all powerless victims of the geopolitical chessboard.
