From Russian invasion to Taliban and Al-Qaida.
The tenth commemoration of the tragic events of 9/11 is also the tenth commemoration of the assassination of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the late leader of the Afghan resistance against the Russian invasion, Taliban and Al-Qaida.
Massoud was assassinated on 9/9/01 in a suicide attack by two members of Al-Qaida , posing as a fake TV crew.
From 1983 in Panjshir valley till April 2001 while fighting Russian army and resisting to the advance of Taliban and Al-Qaida in Northern Afghanistan, Reza extensively documented with his photographs, and a documentary film for National Geographic television, Massoud’s daily life and struggle for a free Afghanistan.
Some of these photographs have become world famous icons.
These images trace 17 years of work by Reza and give a glimpse of how his photographs have since been adopted by Afghans.
